Description
One of Rouges resident mustang herds, collected over the years from auctions. They are returned to a 100 acre sanctuary on the backside of Rouge property to continue to roam and live freely. Though they are rounded up once a year to be given their shots and treat any injuries. A few younger horses are occasionally pulled from the herds for various reasons; health risks, deformities, or they show great potential to become saddle horses. Rouge has been able to break and sell some of their mustangs into loving homes over the years in order to keep their own herds from swelling over.
Our fence-lines are patrolled regularly in order to assure the horses safety as well as confinement. We manage a handful of herds and they have grown quite used to the ranch staff riding in to check on them often. Our mustangs are not completely wild anymore once living here, they slowly grow used to humans observing them and put up with the round ups and confinement to large corrals for a week or two while they are treated and well fed. During especially rough winters the herds know to come closer to the property where they are supplied with plenty of food.
This herd in particular is the most notorious. The striking black lead stallion is the most aggressive and proud of the stallions that roam here. He often has the largest herd. They are also the most curious, and often come up towards the stable property to inspect things or try to mess with the show horses and steal them. Big Black as we have come to call him, is the resident stallion that will never leave, he had arrived one day on his own, attracted we guess by all the horses roaming freely.

-A young mare that had been marked to sell after her mother died, presumably from old age, but Rouge instead reintroduced to their herds and was picked up by Black almost instantly.
Rose
-A gray mare, aged somewhere around 12, that was bought at auction as a yearling and been with Black ever since.
Cocoa
-Black's lead, a mare around 16 and that had been with Rouge since a yearling.
Big Black
-Our favorite band stallion.
Thumper
-A four year old who was brought to Rouge a year ago from a round up severely injured. After treatment and quarantine she was released.
These horses are to be used for auction and adoptable purposes. To offer others Mustangs with bloodlines.
